Healthy living, on a healthy planet

Our entire company is dedicated to helping people taking care of their health. Climate and environmental protection are integral to our efforts because, ultimately, only on a healthy planet can we all lead carefree lives.

For this reason, we are wholeheartedly committed to the 1.5-degree target outlined in the Paris Agreement and have set a goal to achieve climate neutrality by 2040.

To fulfill the requirements of the Paris Agreement, we employ robust scientific methods and tools throughout our entire value chain. These aid us in realistically pursuing our objectives, making our successes measurable, and communicating our actions transparently.

Over the years, three fundamental steps have emerged as critical components of our strategy:

Utilising carbon accounting software solutions, we carefully measure our corporate emissions, down to the finest details. This results in the so-called Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF), which represents the overall carbon footprint of our company.

Furthermore, we have begun incorporating the individual footprint of all third-party products, known as the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF).

Both the CCF and PCF allow us to include our entire value chain in our sustainability efforts.

Once we know the extent and origin of our emissions, we set concrete reduction targets. Employing science-based approaches and prioritisation, we ensure that we reach our targets as quickly as possible.

An exemplary achievement and significant success thus far is the reduction of Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 88% in 2022, as compared to 2020. This was accomplished through the conversion of our headquarters and logistics sites to renewable energy sources, with all other Redcare Pharmacy locations scheduled to follow suit in 2023.

While there is still work to be done to achieve our net zero emissions target by 2040, we have a carefully devised plan that we consistently adhere to. 

Emissions that are presently beyond our ability to reduce or are inherently unavoidable are fully offset through the use of carbon credits. In this regard, we place great importance on investing in certified climate protection projects that are long-term and holistic in nature.

So far, we have supported seven such selected projects. They all meet high standards and guarantee sustainable success in the areas of halting global warming, combating the loss of nature and addressing global inequality.

To date, we have been able to offset almost 48.000 tCO2 in total.
